Crew Class Conducted Afterschool
Another facet of The EDGE program was the small group mentoring that occured after school. Although federal funds could not support this portion of the program, it was a community need that was met. With 77% of mentored students being economically disadvantaged, it was determined that students lacked in life experiences needed to be successful. Community members rallied together to form a program conducted afterschool for one-hundred and eight elementary and middle school students. These classes were small group mentoring that generally had the ration of one adult mentor with four student mentees. Classes conducted were funded by donations from the mentors or small local grants. Such classes ranged from horseback riding, dog care, cheerleading, and tennis to Entomology, rockets, and Spanish. Additional pages have been created to demonstrate the classes. These pages have been created by elementary students in the Webpage Design class.
